Hyundai Hope on Wheels

For 20 years, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has been a leading charity in the fight against pediatric cancer. Founded in 1998, the 501c3 nonprofit organization expects to exceed $145 million in funding for pediatric cancer research and cancer treatment. Originally started in Boston, MA, the Hyundai Hope on Wheels charity has extended over 900 grants to children's hospitals nationwide hoping to help find cures and improved cancer treatment for children.

20 Years of Saving Lives and Creating Hope

Celebrating its 20th year, Hyundai Hope on Wheels' 2018 theme is 20 Years of Saving Lives and Creating Hope. That is exactly what Hyundai has done since 1998, raising $130 million for pediatric cancer research. Funded by Hyundai Motor America and its more than 835 U.S. dealerships, Hyundai Hope of Wheels will award 53 new institutions $15 million in pediatric cancer research grants for the nearly 15,000 children that are diagnosed with cancer each year. The charity will exceed the $145 million mark since the program's inception, making Hope on Wheels one of the largest non-profit funders for cancer treatment nationwide.

Saving Lives through Funding

Hyundai Hope on Wheels provides funding for pediatric cancer research through different grant categories, extending to five total in 2018. Children's Oncology of America member institutions nationwide are eligible to compete for: the Impact Grant, Young Investor Grant, Hyundai Scholar Hope Grant, Hyundai Quantum Grant and the Quantum Collaboration Grant. The ultra-competitive selection process is overseen by a panel of scientific researchers aware of the needs to further successful pediatric cancer research. Through these grants, Hyundai hopes to improve pediatric cancer treatment with the hopes of an eventual cure.

Spreading Hope with Youth Ambassadors

Along with funding for pediatric cancer treatment and a hopeful cure, Hyundai Hope on Wheels spreads their message of hope with National Youth Ambassadors. This year, two new pediatric cancer survivors were named ambassadors to spend the next two years traveling the country and spreading hope. Diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, 11-year old Elizabeth Blair is in her fourth year of remission and almost 100 percent cancer-free. She joins 12-year-old Carter Gates from Colorado Springs, CO who hopes to help others with his knowledge of survival.

Hope on Wheels Sends a Message of Hope

The 2018 Hyundai Hope on Wheels charity campaign kicked off at the New York International Auto Show. Along with Elizabeth and Carter, the Hope on Wheels Tour speaks its word of hope across the U.S in many ways. Whether it is the Times Square Takeover, the redesigned website, or Hyundai's social media presence built behind the #EndChildhoodCancer hashtag, the Hope on Wheels charity uses events, videos and its ambassadors to spread the word and help bring an end to pediatric cancer.

Hope on Wheels Seeks to End Pediatric Cancer

Hyundai Hope on Wheels not only provides grants and knowledge in the fight against pediatric cancer, the Hyundai Cancer Institute provides a home for advanced research of its own. Hyundai extended a $10 million grant to the CHOC Children's Hospital of California in 2011 which has helped the hospital through advanced technology and research to provide the best cancer treatment for those children in need. Whether it is through grants, a national tour to spread awareness or groundbreaking research at the Hyundai Cancer Institute, the Hope on Wheels charity continues to lead the charge in finding the cure for pediatric cancer.
